My parents' weekly newspapers always had a darkroom - idle and neglected because my dad (Theophilus) used a Polaroid. The darkrooms became my playground. Of course I had to have images to process. So I loaded up film and took some. I still develop black and white film from time to time, but most of my images these days are digital. I don't shoot to make money or to gain recognition. I do it just because. Because it makes me happy. Because I'm kind of compelled to. Because it's a challenge to see stuff and try to create images that please me. If any of them please others, great. If they don't, that's OK, too. I won't worry about it if you don't (or, to be honest, even if you do).
I used to take photos, make prints of the ones I liked the most, then put them in boxes in a closet or in the basement or on shelves or ...
Think of this website as my new basement. Only this one doesn't need a dehumidifier.
I grew up as a printer's devil in various small towns in the Dakotas. Worked on my university student newspaper as a photographer, reporter, copy editor and managing editor. Worked at daily newspapers on the Great Plains, mostly covering politics and government. Worked as a writer for an ad agency specializing in aviation. And finished my career in communications for the Washington State Department of Ecology. Now I'm retired, which gives me time to do stuff like this website. And share the stuff I see.
